Get to know Ms Samantha
Where did you grow up?
In the UK in North Shire in a small village on a farm.
How long have you worked at the Akidamy?
It will be five years this year.
What do you love about your Studio?
I love the flexibility of the Toddler Studio, it’s always changing and never the same.
What is your advocate area?
Sign Language and Signing Hands. I did a course, and do refresher courses, because if you don’t use it, you lose it. I chose sign language because I love that you can use it to communicate with people even when they can talk. Especially for children who are quiet, shy or don’t want to talk, you can give them a sign and they understand you. It can help with all sorts of things, from shyness to just being a bit silly.
What’s your biggest strength?
I’m supportive and flexible. I want my team to feel like I stand by them, and I like to be flexible to help wherever I’m needed.
What’s one thing people don’t know about you?
I live in Mandurah and I love the gym.
What is your favourite colour?
It used to be purple, when I was little. Now it would be read or green. I think I just love colour itself. Especially bright colour, I love how it makes a mood.
What are three things you can’t live without?
The gym and relationships, especially friendships. The friendships we have here are so important, because even if the day has been hard, you know that everyone is there for you. I live a long way from family, and have given up a lot of things that I thought I couldn’t live without, and it makes you grateful for the things that you do have, especially the people.
Sweet or savoury?
Definitely savoury.
Loose parts or messy play?
Loose parts! I like messy play, but once you have done it it is finished – you clean it up and it’s gone. I love loose parts because they last forever, you can keep coming back to them and using them in different ways.
